Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy, TMJ in Olathe, KS.

If you’re struggling with jaw pain, clenching, headaches, facial or neck tension, poor sleep, or other symptoms that seem difficult to connect, there may be more to the picture than the jaw alone. As an IAOM Certified Orofacial Myologist (COM®) and Registered Dental Hygienist, I take an integrative approach to TMD and orofacial dysfunction by looking at tongue posture, breathing patterns, oral habits, muscle function, posture, sleep, and the nervous system. My goal is to identify functional patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms and create a personalized plan to help you move, breathe, sleep, and function better. I work with both adults and children and collaborate with dentists, orthodontists, physicians, physical therapists, and other providers when appropriate. Your first visit includes a comprehensive assessment of your orofacial function, breathing, tongue posture, jaw function, and related patterns, followed by recommendations tailored to your specific needs.

Welcome! If you’ve been dealing with jaw pain, tension, clenching, headaches, sleep issues, or symptoms that haven’t fully resolved with traditional approaches, you’re in the right place. I take the time to look at the bigger picture and understand how your breathing, tongue posture, oral habits, muscle function, posture, and daily habits may be connected. Your first visit is a thorough assessment designed to understand what may be contributing to your symptoms and determine whether myofunctional therapy is the right fit for you. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of your next steps and a personalized plan for moving forward.

Treatment approach

Myofunctional therapy, orofacial muscle retraining, tongue posture training, nasal breathing retraining, oral habit modification, jaw and facial muscle exercises, posture and movement awareness, neuromuscular re-education, and myofascial release. I also incorporate education around sleep, stress, recovery, and lifestyle factors that may influence muscle tension and function. Treatment is individualized and may include both hands-on techniques and therapeutic exercises completed between visits.

Treatment is collaborative, educational, and individualized to each person. I take a whole-person approach rather than focusing only on the location of pain. Visits may include assessment of breathing, tongue and jaw function, muscle patterns, posture, and oral habits, along with targeted exercises, hands-on myofascial techniques, and home strategies. I also collaborate with other healthcare and dental professionals when additional evaluation or care is appropriate.
