Incorrect information
Unclaimed listings are compiled from public sources, so errors can happen. Report one via the contact form or the "report an error" link on any provider page. We aim to correct verified errors within a few business days. Providers can permanently control their own information by claiming their listing.
Complaints about a provider
If you believe a listed provider has misrepresented their credentials, made misleading claims, or behaved improperly on this platform, report it with as much detail as you can. What happens next:
- Review. We review every report privately. Reports involving credentials, accuracy, or professional conduct may also be reviewed with input from our Round Table advisory members in the relevant discipline.
- Provider response. Where appropriate, we give the provider a chance to respond before acting.
- Action. Outcomes range from a correction, to removal of specific content, to suspension or permanent removal of a listing under the Provider Participation Agreement.
TMJDirectory is an independent directory: we can act on what happens on our platform (accuracy, advertising claims, conduct in listings), but we cannot adjudicate clinical care disputes, insurance disagreements, or billing matters between you and a provider. For concerns about clinical care, contact the provider's state licensing board.
Provider-to-provider disputes
Disagreements between listed providers (for example, over listing content that references another practice) should be reported through the same channel. We apply the same process, and the Provider Participation Agreement's accuracy and conduct rules govern.
Reviews & ratings policy
Star ratings shown on listings today come from public Google ratings and are displayed automatically with their source. TMJDirectory does not currently host its own visitor reviews. If we introduce native reviews, the following rules will apply (and already apply to any testimonial-style content in listings):
- No fake or purchased reviews. Reviews must reflect a genuine experience. Incentivized testimonials must be disclosed as such.
- No defamation or private health details. We remove content containing personal attacks, protected health information about others, or unverifiable factual accusations.
- Provider responses. Providers may respond professionally to feedback; responses must not disclose whether or when someone was a patient.
- Moderation and removal. We may remove content that violates these rules, and either party may request review of a moderation decision by replying through the contact form.
Advertising & sponsored placement disclosure
TMJDirectory's ordering is disclosed and consistent: claimed and Premium listings appear above unclaimed listings in search results and on state pages, and are visually labeled (★ Premium). We do not accept payment to alter a provider's rating, to suppress accurate information, or to include providers who don't meet our listing standards. Any future sponsored placement will be clearly labeled as such. Separately, some outbound product links on our educational pages (for example, on /resources) are affiliate links — TMJDirectory may earn a commission on purchases made through them at no extra cost to you. That relationship never determines what is featured, and it is disclosed on the page where the links appear.
Escalation
Not satisfied with how a report was handled? Reply to our response and ask for escalation — a second reviewer will take a fresh look and confirm or revise the outcome.
