This Code of Conduct applies to every professional listed in TMJDirectory and to Founding Members. It works alongside the Provider Participation Agreement and the Terms of Use.
Professionalism
- Practice legally and only within the scope of your license, training, and certification.
- Treat patients, colleagues, and the public with respect and courtesy.
- Respond to inquiries and referrals professionally and in a timely manner.
Honesty and integrity
- Provide accurate information about your credentials, services, and experience.
- Do not misstate qualifications, board status, certifications, or outcomes.
- Avoid false, misleading, or unsubstantiated health claims and guarantees of results.
Patient privacy
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and other applicable privacy laws.
- Never post protected health information, patient images, or identifying details without proper, documented consent.
Respect and non-discrimination
- Do not engage in harassment, bullying, intimidation, or abusive conduct.
- Do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, or any other protected class.
- Respect differing professional opinions and scopes of practice.
Online and social media conduct
- Represent yourself and your profession honestly and respectfully online.
- Do not spread misinformation or disparage colleagues in bad faith.
- Do not use the TMJDirectory name or badges in a way that could mislead or damage the directory's reputation (see the Brand & Trademark Usage Guidelines).
Reviews and referrals
- Do not post fake reviews, solicit fake reviews, or offer incentives for reviews (see the Testimonials & Reviews Policy).
- Make referrals in the patient's best interest, not for undisclosed compensation.
Insurance and compliance
- Maintain professional liability insurance where required by your profession or state.
- Keep your license, registration, and required certifications current and in good standing.
Consequences
Violations may result in a warning, correction of a listing, suspension, or removal from TMJDirectory and any programs, consistent with the complaint and dispute process. Serious matters (fraud, license loss, patient-safety concerns) may result in immediate removal.
